"Made in China·Champion Code" | Leading the Eastern Region "Single Champion" continues to expand

Since the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the "Special Action Plan for the Cultivation and Promotion of Individual Champion Enterprises in the Manufacturing Industry" in 2016, a total of 848 individual champions have been selected in six batches, including 455 individual champion demonstration enterprises and 393 individual champion products.
Although the number of individual champion companies and products continues to increase, it is not easy to truly become a single champion. From the perspective of selection criteria, the selection of individual champions in the manufacturing industry puts forward specific requirements in terms of innovation ability, specialization degree, quality and benefit, such as "being engaged in related business fields for 10 years" and "the market share of individual products ranks among the top 3 in the world position", "the key performance indicators of the product are at the leading level of similar products in the world", etc.
Where are the individual champions who stand out from many companies? Which regional individual champions are strong? Which cities have individual champions with "excellent results"?
Zhejiang, Shandong, Jiangsu and Guangdong lead the way and drive the formation of clusters
According to statistics, from the perspective of provincial distribution, Zhejiang, Shandong, Jiangsu, and Guangdong have the largest number of individual champions, with 149, 145, 122, and 85 respectively, which are ahead of other provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions, accounting for 59% of the total number of individual champions. Beijing, Fujian, Henan, Shanghai, Hunan, Hubei, Liaoning, and Anhui are among the 20-40 manufacturing individual champions; Shaanxi, Sichuan, Tianjin, and Hebei are among the 10-20 manufacturing individual champions.
In terms of regional distribution, each region also presents different distribution characteristics. The first six batches covered all 28 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions except Hainan, Tibet, and Qinghai, 74.8% of which were distributed in the eastern region; the central region accounted for 14.1%; the western region accounted for 7.9%; the northeast region accounted for the least, less than 5% .
Xiong Meng, Secretary of the Party Committee, Executive Vice President and Secretary General of the China Federation of Industrial Economics, said that the good economic development foundation and openness of the eastern coastal areas have played a positive role in promoting the emergence and growth of individual champion enterprises. At the same time, individual champions are also playing a leading role in promoting the formation of industrial clusters with strong agglomeration effects and specialized division of labor.
Ningbo tops the list, each city strengthens policy support
From the perspective of the city distribution of various individual champions, 848 individual champion companies are distributed in 152 cities, and there are 29 cities with more than 10 individual champion companies.
According to data from Qixinbao, there are 35 individual champion demonstration enterprises and 28 individual champion products in Ningbo, ranking first in the country. Shenzhen, Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Changzhou, Qingdao, Suzhou, Nantong and Zibo are also in the forefront of the country in the number of single champions in manufacturing.
The development of individual champions in these cities is inseparable from the high attention paid by local governments. As of June 2021, 11 provinces and cities have issued individual champion enterprise cultivation action implementation plans, and more than 20 provinces and cities have issued relevant support policies. On the basis of provincial-level deployments, provinces such as Zhejiang and Shandong have also pushed prefectures and cities to issue corresponding policies.
In December 2021, the "Implementation Plan for Building a "Province of Individual Champions" in the Manufacturing Industry in Zhejiang Province" was issued, proposing to add about 130 new manufacturing individual champions by 2025, doubling the number, and working together to create a number of "single event champion cities" "County of Individual Champions", the number of individual champions in the province's manufacturing industry is guaranteed to be the first in the country.
In October 2021, the Shenzhen Bureau of Industry and Information Technology issued the "Management Measures for the Selection of Individual Champions in the Manufacturing Industry", proposing 6 policies and measures to support the development of individual champions, including financial rewards, project incentives, and city leadership services. Among them, in terms of financial rewards, a one-time reward of 2 million yuan and 1 million yuan will be given to those who have won the titles of single champion demonstration enterprises and single champion products in Shenzhen's manufacturing industry.
According to the analysis of industry insiders, the proportion of individual champions is inseparable from the policy support among cities. In the future, the competition for individual champions between cities will become more and more fierce. Each city needs to truly create a good environment for the development of small and medium-sized enterprises. This not only requires the investment of real money, but also requires local governments to provide good services for enterprises.
Break through city restrictions and strengthen cooperation
From the perspective of the individual champions of the manufacturing industry and the industry sectors where their products are located, the individual champions are distributed in industries such as machinery, electronic information, petrochemicals, textiles, light industry, non-ferrous metals, building materials, steel, medicine, and shipbuilding. Among them, the number of enterprises in the machinery industry is the largest, accounting for 35.7% of the total number of individual champions in the manufacturing industry; followed by the electronic information industry, accounting for 17.9%; petrochemical industry accounting for 13.9%.
"These industries are the key industry fields for the transformation and upgrading of my country's manufacturing industry, moving towards high-end, and creating technical barriers to China's manufacturing. These fields will be the key to the development and growth of my country's manufacturing industry in the future." What are the characteristics of the spatial distribution of individual champions in various industries? According to relevant experts, it can be roughly divided into three types: continuous patches, core agglomeration, and scattered distribution.
Industries showing continuous distribution mainly include chemical raw materials and chemical products manufacturing, general equipment manufacturing, textile industry, and automobile manufacturing industry.
The industries showing core agglomeration mainly include special equipment manufacturing, railway, aviation, ship and other transportation equipment manufacturing, computer, communication and other electronic equipment manufacturing.
The industries showing scattered distribution mainly include the pharmaceutical manufacturing industry, the metal products industry, and the non-metallic mineral products industry.
"From the perspective of the spatial distribution of individual champions in various industries, it is inseparable from the economy, technology, talents, capital and industrial foundation to breed individual champions in a region. Relying only on a single city is not a good model for the development of individual champions. Only by breaking through city restrictions, Industrial development can only be strengthened by forming cooperation among wider urban agglomerations," said industry experts.
